Video of Jayalalithaa in hospital released day before RK Nagar poll

Chennai: Expelled AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran's supporter P Vetriivel on Wednesday released a video footage of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa when she was admitted at Chennai's Apollo Hospital ahead of her demise in December past year. The RK Nagar constituency was held by Jayalalithaa till she died. "If it does, we'll submit evidence to them", news agency ANI quoted Vetrivel as saying. Several theories have been floating over her demise in the last one year.

J Jayalalithaa is seen sitting up on a hospital bed and sipping a drink in what is the first ever video of the Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister who died in December previous year.

Jayalalithaa's death, which is now being probed, left a power vacuum in the southern state and soon a controversy erupted over the secrecy surrounding her condition. "The merged AIADMK faction has been raising questions over Jayalalithaa's hospitalization and I wanted to put an end to all conspiracy theories", said MLA S Vetrivel. This was taken after she was moved from the ICU by VK Sasikala. Please forgive me. We told lies Amma (Jayalalithaa) is eating sambar, chatni, tea etc so that you will believe that she is improving. "The accusations that she was already ailing when they brought her to the hospital are incorrect", he said.

Political analyst Sumanth C Raman said the video, in itself, does not say anything other than the fact that it was taken at the general ward after Jayalalithaa was shifted from the intensive care unit of the Apollo Hospital. He also admitted that the DMK had given Rs 30 crore to potential voters ahead of the April 2017 bypoll (the April 12, 2017, election to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency was cancelled by the EC over reports of the use of money to influence voters).

Dhinakaran, who fell out of favour with Palaniswami and also lost the battle for the party's "two leaves" symbol to the latter, is fighting as an independent.
