FC Barcelona Announces Buyout of Brazil Defender Yerry Mina

Barcelona have officially made Palmeiras defender Yerry Mina their second signing of the January transfer window, following in the footsteps of €160m star Philippe Coutinho. The Colombia worldwide will sign a 5-1/2 year contract with the Spanish side.

Mina was a key part for Palmeiras when it won the Brazilian league in 2016 and was runner-up a year ago. Mina had earlier tasted success in Colombia with Santa Fe after winning the 2015 national title as well as that year's Copa Sudamericana.

The Colombia worldwide will strengthen Barcelona's defensive options as Javier Mascherano is expected to leave Camp Nou in the January transfer window, with Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune reportedly keen on the experienced Argentine.

Mina, 23, moves to the Camp Nou for a fee of €11.8 million, and the Colombian's five-and-a-half-year contract includes a €100m release clause. "Without a doubt the Colombian has the potential to make it", Barcelona said in a statement on their website.

Barcelona also officiated the signing of the first Colombian player in the history of Barcelona.

Yerry Mina was expected to arrive in Barcelona on Thursday after being given permission by Palmeiras to complete a long-awaited deal to join the Catalan giants.
