Georgia Knocks Off Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl to Advance

Georgia halfback Sony Michel rushed 27 yards in the second overtime for his fourth touchdown of the game and the No. 3 Bulldogs overcame a 17-point deficit to advance to the national championship game in a wild 54-48 victory over the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners in the 104th Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif, on Monday.

The Georgia Bulldog season continues now with the National Championship Game in Atlanta on Monday night.

OU had a chance to win in the first overtime after holding the Bulldogs to a field goal.

"They kind of remind us of us", Alabama cornerback Anthony Averett said of Georgia. "I definitely think we'll be 100 percent, though, for sure". We've just got to move forward.

The monumental win in the College Football Playoff semifinal sends Georgia to 13-1 with a trip to the national championship January 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. He never cared about the Heisman, he cared about his team and being able to lead them to be National Champions. The Sooners outgained the SEC champions on offense in the first half, producing 360 yards to 291 for Georgia. As time passes, though, we'll look back at what Riley did on Monday with equal parts confusion and disbelief. Running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel combined for 326 yards and five touchdowns on 25 carries.

Earlier in the game, Chubb and Michel broke the record for most career rushing yards by a running back duo in college football history, and it was Michel who took the direct snap and scored the game-winning touchdown in double overtime. The Sooners had taken a 45-38 lead with 6:52 remaining on strong safety Steven Parker's 46-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

One of the more remarkable stats this season, especially given that starting quarterback Jake Fromm is a freshman, is that the Bulldogs are 51-of-53 in red-zone opportunities with 38 touchdowns.

ROQUAN SMITH: It was just the halftime adjustments, we had to come in, we knew we were going to face adversity throughout the game, and we had to make those adjustments and just come out and play with a little more passion. "I'm just ready for this game plan, ready to watch Georgia film but I'm really just really excited about this game".

After weaving past an Oklahoma defender near the 20-yard line, Michel scampered into the end zone untouched for the game-winning touchdown before being mobbed by his teammates in celebration. He said the defense "stunk it up and played really bad". Gave them a little bit of juice, and then, yeah, we just didn't play well though early in the second half.

"We always preach a coordinated pass rush", Tucker said.

However, allowing 31 points in the first half is very un-Georgia-like, even if it was against the best player in the country.

"It's been a great run, this senior class", Riley said.

"Straight beasts, man", said the Los Angeles Rams running back and former first-round pick out of Georgia, who wore a red cap with a Georgia "G" on it. "I have a lot of confidence in him as I do our whole staff". The first three times he touched the ball, he gained 108 total yards and scored two touchdowns. "And we're going to keep fighting for each other", Carter said. Of course, a lot of our guys were getting exhausted early in the night, so they wanted to go to bed earlier, and their bodies were naturally getting up earlier.
