Heat Guard Dion Waiters to Have Season-Ending Ankle Surgery

Dion Waiters is expected to have season-ending surgery on his injured left ankle, according to Yahoo's Shams Charania.

Waiters, 26, first suffered the left ankle injury last season, causing him to miss the final 13 games of the season. "I didn't even do anything when I twisted it".

Waiters' year ends with 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 23.7 FanDuel points per game.

Should Waiters proceed with the operation, as expected, it will mark the second straight season he's appeared in fewer than 50 games. Per Charania, he received multiple opinions on the ankle by doctors in Los Angeles before making the decision for surgery.

Waiters is likely to have the surgery sometime within the next two weeks.

The Heat now sit fourth in the Eastern Conference.

Ultimately, Waiters signed a four-year, $52 million deal with the Heat in July after Miami was unable to land Gordon Hayward in free agency. Without their second-leading scorer, they will allocate duties at the off-guard spot to the trio of Tyler Johnson, Wayne Ellington and Josh Richardson, who are all averaging in double figures on the season.
