Naples man attacked by bear as he walked dog

While local resident, Christian Pugh, told of recording a video of bears going through the trash bins outside his home-but shortly after he recorded it, one of the bears rushed toward him.

Meunier maganed to somehow get away from the bear and enter his apartment again. "Everything went in slow motion and it's as scary as you can imagine".

The bear that attacked Meunier has not been caught, but trapping efforts to capture it will continue, Parrish told via the nypost. The attack left him with three lacerations to the right side of face and ear.

Meunier had to be taken to the hospital for treatment after he suffered several cuts across his head and stomach. "I don't care if this scars, or anything, I walked away with my life, and it could've been a whole lot worse".

This is the first bear attack with injuries that has occurred in South Florida since 1970.

The attack occurred in an apartment complex across the street from Gulf Coast High School.

"Truthfully, I'm not sure how I got out alive", Meunier said. "Any bear to me is big, but I have to say this one here is probably between 250 to 300 pounds, and like I said, she's had 3 cubs around with her", says Kirk Amerine. "That is what they were telling me in the ER".

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission has placed traps baited with doughnuts around the area in an attempt to catch the bear. Neighbors say they have seen bears for months digging through trash cans in their yards. The FWC estimates that there are 4,050 bears in Florida with 1,040 in South Florida alone.
