Packers Add Offensive Changes; Bennett and Van Pelt Reported Out

With Dom Capers out the door, the Packers defensive back didn't blame his former defensive coordinator as much as he did the personnel department and locker room. Despite the one-year contract extension McCarthy received during the just-concluded season that will take him through 2019, he could be looking at his last season in Green Bay.

Mike McCarthy is scheduled to hold his season ending Press Conference Thursday at 11:00am. Philbin spent the past two seasons as the Indianapolis Colts' assistant head coach and offensive line coach under Chuck Pagano, who was sacked earlier this week.

Murphy is leading the search for a replacement for general manager Ted Thompson, who is moving to an advisory role with the team.

Then the McCarthy era in Green Bay would seem to be nearing an end.

Bennett, who played for the team and has been part of the coaching staff since 2005, served as offensive coordinator for the past three seasons.

All told, that's an astonishing amount of change for a franchise that'd made eight straight trips to the postseason, reached four NFC Championship Games and hasn't seen a staff shakeup even close to this since it last missed the playoffs in 2008 - as well as one with a two-time NFL MVP in the prime of his quarterbacking career. On a personal note, Ted's work ethic, humility and loyalty are almost unparalleled, and it has been one of the great honors of my life to work beside him. Green Bay was fifth in overall defense in the Super Bowl-winning season in 2010.

And, he insisted, numerous changes would have happened even if Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr hadn't fractured Rodgers' right collarbone on October 15 in Minneapolis, sending a once-promising 4-1 season into a tailspin. This about doing what's in the best interests of the Green Bay Packers. McCurley worked his way up through the organization over the course of 12 years.

"The draft-and-develop still needs to be the core of who you are", McCarthy said.

As the Green Bay Packers go through changes in the front office and coaching staff during the off-season, stability will remain at the head-coaching position for another year. Injuries have plagued the cornerback position. "It's going to be different, we're going to have some different voices, some different faces in here", said kicker Mason Crosby, one of the team's longest tenured players.

Needless to say, the Packers are not messing around.
