Van Jones on Oprah's 2020 chances: 'She can do it'

I've talked to a lot of people close to her, around her, there is basically bedlam in Oprah land right now.

The president added that he liked her, "but I don't think she's going to run".

The daughter of US President Donald Trump was met with a wave of criticism on Tuesday when she tried to join the #TimesUp movement of women speaking out against sexual misconduct.

"I've interviewed and portrayed people who've withstood some of the ugliest things life can throw at you, but the one quality all of them seem to share is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning, even during our darkest nights", she said. Winfrey, presiding regally over the evening from the front row where she was acknowledged again and again by awed actors as they accepted their awards, just laughed heartily.

A stock of sentimental anecdotes always at hand, Winfrey began her speech describing herself as an awestruck little girl sitting on the kitchen floor watching Sidney Poitier win his 1964 Oscar for best actor for Lilies of the Field: He was the first black actor to ever win that award. I just thought, oh, oh", she said in a December 2016 conversation with on Bloomberg's "The David Rubenstein Show: "Peer-to-Peer Conversations". Absolutely. But in terms of where she stands on a number of positions, I would find a lot of problems with that. NBC even tweeted, "Nothing but respect for OUR future president" with a GIF of Oprah.

During an appearance on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360", Jones discussed the media giant's chances for success if she were to pursue a run for the White House, calling her "the most beloved human being on Earth".

"They're going to run her like she's this glorious woman that cares, meanwhile she's literally the wingman going out and getting tail-and I guess you're going to say it, I'm going to say it-she's well known with Weinstein to enjoy tail together".

During host Seth Meyers's opening monologue, he acknowledged the claim that his disparaging remarks at the 2011 White House Correspondents' Association dinner may have influenced President Donald Trump to run.

Beyond her rise from poverty, Winfrey's success as a multidimensional media figure has come from promoting ways for women to assert themselves, typically outside the political arena.

It is not clear whether politics ingenue and non-candidate Winfrey has what could be framed in election terms as policies.

"Great! You can make a lofty donation to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund that is available to support your father's accusers", she said. "It was very nice", he said. "There'll be no running for office of any kind for me", she told CBS in October. The person emphasised that the star had not made up her mind about running. "It'd be a pretty good ticket".
