Amazon Is Bringing Alexa to Your Toyota

Meanwhile, Amazon will release Alexa app in the coming weeks, and PC makers are seeking help from Intel's Smart Sound Technology to ensure hands-free access to Alexa on PCs.

STUFFING AMAZON'S ALEXA into a pair of glasses it a bit of a jump form popping the virtual assistant into a speaker, but that's what smart glasses maker Vuzix has done.

Vuzix is in the business of smart glasses for over 20 years. Needless to say that Alexa will instantly eclipse native assistant Cortana with its humungous count of skills.

Looking ahead John Scumniotales, head of products for Alexa's automobile wing, is confident that the technology can be put to far more ambitious use: "It's still really day one for us in terms of what we can do with Alexa in the vehicle". The glasses will be available starting sometime during the second quarter, priced at $1,000. The Vuzix stock (VUZI) jumped on the reveal of the Vuzix Blade, mostly because of the Alexa integration. "This is the beginnings of leaving your phone in your pocket", said Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix. Prices should come down as the enterprise adopts the glasses in a big way. Vuzix holds 59 patents and 42 additional patents pending and numerous IP licenses in the Video Eyewear field. Toyota announced the news at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Founded in 1997, Vuzix is a public company (NASDAQ: VUZI) with offices in Rochester, NY, Oxford, UK and Tokyo, Japan.
