Barcelona's Turan returns to Turkey on loan

Arda Turan has joined Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir on a two-and-a-half-year loan deal from Barcelona.

"FC Barcelona and Istanbul Basaksehir FK agree on a loan deal for the Turkish player for the remainder of the season and two more", Barcelona said on their official website.

Turan, who turns 31 at the end of the month, joined Barca for €35 million in 2015 during an election campaign, a signing made by president Josep Maria Bartomeu and backed by Luis Enrique, the club's coach at the time.

Turan appeared in 55 games with the Catalan club, scoring 15 goals.

"This is not just a transfer for Basaksehir, but a transfer for Turkey".

Turan wore the No.7 for two seasons at Barcelona but has moved to Turkey, with Barcelona reserving the right to sell him in any of the transfer windows during his loan spell.

The fourth-most capped Turkish player will also be hoping to return to his best for the national team after reversing his decision to retire from global football in August.

The midfielder claimed six titles with Barcelona: one La Liga, two Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup, one Club World Cup and one European Super Cup.

Turan is a household name in his home country, where his personal life is followed as closely as his exploits on the field.
