'Black Panther' Sets Marvel Pre-Sales Record for First 24 Hours

The new Marvel movie, Black Panther is making news for plenty of reasons. This looks like it will be an even bigger movie than some have speculated, and the more footage we see from Chadwick Boseman's first solo big screen outing as the superhero, the cooler it looks. But there's also been a whole lot of grass-roots support for "Black Panther".

Nyong'o - who plays Nakia, T'Challa's undercover operative within the Dora Milaje - took to social media to explain how tickets had gone on sale on Monday night, but when she went to purchase them, she wasn't able to. The featurette not only provides some key details about each of their characters, but shows them kicking ass in the secretive African stronghold of Wakanda.

But Okoye and the Dora Milaje aren't the only ones taking care of business. And Nakia has one fight sequence in some kind of casino, which would not be out of place in a James Bond film.

One of the stars of the movie is Lupita Nyong'o, she is an Oscar victor, but that doesn't necessarily mean she can get tickets to her own movie. In fact, just 24 hours after tickets for the film started pre-selling, the film was already able to overtake previous record holder "Captain America: Civil War". As T'Challa comes into his role as Wakanda's new king, he'll be forced to reevaluate certain traditions and, in a way, Okoye represents the old guard versus the new. It will be released on February 16, 2018.
