Carrie Underwood Teams With Ludacris for 'The Champion'

Although Underwood's music may already be considered country pop or new country, this track takes her to full-fledged pop, featuring electronic beats and nearly no country music indicators besides the just barely detectable twang in her voice.

Carrie will also open NBC's Super Bowl LLI on February 4 with a music video filmed a year ago for "The Champion". The up-tempo track includes electronic beats, a piano melody and speaker-banging bass, while the empowering lyrics celebrate being "born to win". "I am the champion/ You're gonna know my name/ You can't hurt me now/ I can't feel the pain".

The track even makes references to sporting legends Rocky Balboa and Muhammad Ali. Underwood had been tweeting some of the essential words from the song-unshakable, unstoppable, unbreakable, invincible-leading up to the release of the song on Friday (Jan. 12).

They say they wrote the song with sports in mind, but also to help people overcome anything in their lives. Produced by Jim Jonsin, the upbeat track finds Carrie singing inspirational verses on the chorus. Some Twitter users have expressed confusion over the direction of Underwood's music, while others suggested that the Storyteller singer should stick to her usual country music format. "The Champion" will arrive on January 12.
