Fortnite Gets a Battle Royale Map Update with New Areas and Tidbits

Fortnite's Battle Royale mode, for all the controversy that initially surrounded it, has found a solid footing within the genre.

With smaller additions of guns, items, and special modes coinciding with these weekly updates, the game has received a steady stream of content since its release. Knowing the map and what's where is one thing, but being able to be caught unaware (or more importantly, catching your opponent unaware) is what keeps the games fresh.

The latest Fortnite developer update has dropped and the big news is there's a map update coming next week.

To mark the announcement lead systems designer Eric Williamson appeared on a new video posted to the games official Twitter account, highlighting some of the new changes.

According to Williamson, the Fortnite Battle Royale Map Update must happen since the island on which the 100 players are competing seems to have fewer points of interest in certain places than it should, especially around the western side of the map.

"[Our map update includes] a bunch of new points of interest, including the city, and a bunch of new named areas on the west side of the map".

A bunch of new points of interest and even a brand-new city are coming in the next update, as well as quality of life changes and general updates.

Williamson said that the different "biomes" have been divided up more clearly, so as to help distinguish them from each other.
