January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

Some think that human trafficking only happens to children or women.

"Human trafficking is our society's modern-day slavery, and unfortunately is one of the most profitable criminal enterprises in the world", said U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, a Palm Beach County Democrat. "Since January is human trafficking awareness month, this is a flawless opportunity to educate the parents about the many ways sex dealers approach our children, including through their mobile devices or at school".

Thursday was Human Traffic Awareness Day and January is Human Traffic Awareness Month.

According to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) there are few human rights crises more dire than in industrial agriculture than sexual violence against farmworkers.

Amy Leenerts, founder and director of Free2Hopesaid the ribbon-cutting ceremony could not come at a better time, not just for the importance of raising awareness of trafficking, but also for the spotlight it places on the needs of this vulnerable population. The two offices will use the funds over three-years to intensify the work they are doing to hold offenders accountable and support victims of human trafficking.
