'John Wick' Is Back (As A Television Show On Starz)

Starz has announced they will be adapting the John Wick film franchise (which now consists two films and a third "Chapter 3" installment slated for 2019), into an original TV series.

The John Wick movies are absolutely top-tier action cinema: stylish, witty and pleasingly violent. Starz President of Original Programming Carmi Zlotnick said Keanu Reeves will be involved in multiple capacities.

The series itself will focus on the Continental Hotel - a hideout of sorts for assassins. Every person in there looks as if they've got an exciting story to tell, and it seems like the ideal setting with which to explore the often surreal John Wick universe. The Continental will be a series about the film's hotel chain built for assassins. "I think you can expect to see him at some point in the series".

The news comes fresh out of the TCAs on Friday, which indicates a very healthy and synergetic relationship between Lionsgate and Starz.

Albrecht added that Starz looked at the fan base surrounding the films as an advantage to creating a TV show.

The third John Wick movie, which stars Keanu, is due out in theaters in 2019. "This is a chance to engage with the phenomenal fanbase ..." Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy, The Wire) will write the series and serve as showrunner, which will be executive produced by John Wick's Basil Iwanyk, Stahelski, and Kolstad, along with Collins, David Leitch, and Keanu Reeves. Reeves will also serve as one of the show's producers. "The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introduce some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world". Last year Chad Stahelski, who co-directed the first film and directed the second, revealed plans for a television spin-off called The Continental and now it has found a home at Starz.
