Kenyatta to attend ANC birthday bash

Former ANC President Jacob Zuma and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta are some of the dignitaries attending the dinner.

"President Kenyatta's presence here goes a long away in proving that we have a very special relationship with Kenya", he said.

The meeting marks his first foreign trip since he was sworn in for his second and final term as Kenyan president in November past year.

President Zuma also said that he wants to strengthen the relations between the countries and take them to a higher level.

"We have also had the opportunity to discuss regional issues that are to do with mutual interest, matters of peace and security".

Speaking to the media after a meeting between the two in East London‚ ahead of the ANC's 106th birthday rally‚ Kenyatta said he wished Ramaphosa and the newly elected ANC leadership well.

"As I told my brother [Ramaphosa]‚ we have a lot to learn from a party that has held together for 106 years and have been involved in the struggle of South Africa and Africa‚" Kenyatta said.

The President will address the issues of pan-Africanism, the role of political parties in promoting African democracy, unity, and self-reliance in a highly anticipated address.

"We also feel that while he is here, he will participate in the birthday celebrations of the ruling party", Zuma said.

Earlier in the day President Kenyatta met German carmaker Volkswagen South Africa head Thomas Schaefer who vowed to double production in Kenya and to introduce a new model at its plant in Thika, a huge boost for President Uhuru Kenyatta's big four action plan.
