New England Patriots secure top seed in the AFC

That is exactly what took place.

The New England Patriots managed to cap another impressive National Football League season with their 26-6 win over the New York Jets.

"It's like starting all over from scratch", Harrison said. "Well, we're playing the Jets this week", Belichick said.

With home-field advantage throughout the playoffs following a 26-6 victory on Sunday, the AFC's road to the Super Bowl will again run through New England.

Said Adams: "We're moving forward and we're gaining some leverage". The Patriots though were up and ready to play and you could tell immediately by their 1st possession of the game.

It remains to be seen whether the coaches saw enough over the game's first 59 minutes to figure Harrison into their postseason plans, or if the outside linebacker can assimilate himself into the system over the next two weeks enough to make a significant difference. This is huge for New England, as Bill Belichick and the Patriots are notoriously hard to beat at Gillette Stadium in the postseason.

Tom Brady bookended his regular season with a pair of games in which he completed less than half of his pass attempts, hitting on just 18 of 37 throws to connect on sub-50 percent for the first time since a terrible showing in the opener.

Belichick had the Patriots crew put thermometers inside the Jets tunnel in an effort to remind them of the temperature.

By that point, with the game easily in hand, Brady was happy to be off the field and done playing in the bitterly-cold weather. They then rebuilt him in their system and helped him process as quickly as he can run.

The Jets are on the outside of the playoff picture for the seventh straight season, with their last playoff triumph being a 28-21 win at New England in the AFC divisional round on January 16, 2011. Record-wise, we're far away. We have a few pieces here and there that we will assess in the offseason, and you kind of go from there. You have five wins - go for it! "I think we can do that". Not Bryce Petty, who was mostly woeful in throwing for 232 yards, zero touchdowns and zero third-down conversions.

The pair wasn't exactly sharp Sunday, with Cooks snagging five balls for a team-high 79 yards (plus the penalty yardage). Over his last 13 games, Lewis had six rushing touchdowns, three receiving touchdowns and one return TD.

We'll see where that takes NY down a very long road but for now let's look at New York's report card vs. the defending Super Bowl champions in Week 17.

"Of course you wonder", he said about his future in NY. "In those situations, it's hard to convert". Each day that it went it got better. Cut by the Steelers, signed by the Patriots on Tuesday, Harrison had five tackles, including two sacks at the end, and forced a fumble. The 40-year-old tossed two more touchdowns in the 20-point win to finish the year with a stellar 32:8 touchdown-interception ratio. "My mom gave them to me, and I'm really glad she did", he said. "It gets pretty cold, but you've just got to do the best you can do", said Brady during his press conference on Friday. The Jets, who didn't pass 200 total yards until late in the fourth quarter, simply couldn't compete offensively.

Petty was sacked in the end zone for a safety in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots led 21-3 at halftime.

As running back Dion Lewis noted afterward in a warm and cozy locker room, all that means is that the Patriots are guaranteed one more home game.

The Jets are 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine games against the Patriots. With 13 Degrees at Kickoff, it was the coldest Regular Season Game for the Patriots. Jets S Marcus Maye was ruled out with an ankle injury and WR Robby Anderson sustained a concussion on a hit in the third quarter. More importantly, he came out of the game healthy on a day where Rex Burkhead, James White and Mike Gillislee were all unavailable with various injuries.

It sure appears as if Muhammad Wilkerson's time with the Jets is over.

The New England Patriots already had a first-round bye locked up, and the New York Jets were limping to the end of another losing season.
