Ronaldo: Neymar took a step back leaving Barca for PSG

His fellow global compatriot grabbed all the transfer headlines in the summer when he swapped giants Barcelona for the Ligue 1 side in a world record £198million deal.

"He's at PSG now, but sports-wise, this decision he's taken is a step backwards", the 2002 World Player of the Year said in an interview with former global Zico's youtube channel.

PSG were 2-0 winners on the night with Adrien Rabiot adding to Neymar's goal towards the end of the game.

"I played in Barcelona at the time and went to Inter when the Italian championship was much more competitive".

Ronaldo, a two-time World Cup victor with Brazil (1994, 2002), spent the 1996-97 season with Barcelona after joining from PSV and then moved to Inter, returning to Spain in 2002 for Real Madrid for five seasons.

Neymar, who is in good form this season in Ligue 1 - has attempted to put to bed such rumours, but Marca have claimed a move is now on the cards.

It's understood Real Madrid are seriously considering making an offer to bring the Brazilian superstar back to Spain, but the La Liga giants will come up against stiff competition from United.

There are various factors which have given Real Madrid confidence they can finalise one of the most controversial transfers in history.
