Slain Kashmiri militants are 'martyrs' too: PDP legislator

Yesterday, he had said in the assembly that the government should hold talks with all parties concerned, including separatists, to resolve the Kashmir issue. It is glorifying terrorism, you are playing with fire.Go and ask families of those who lost people to terror in the past 30 years.

"This house has to end the blame game over the killings", he said, and stressed that the Centre's special representative, Dineshwar Sharma should take the militants on board during dialogues.

Last week, Rafi Ahmad Mir, the PDP's chief spokesperson, had said the party condemned and regretted the killings of both policemen and militants. We should sympathise with the parents of jawans and with the parents of terrorists as well.

Mir's statement has not gone down well with the party's ally Bharatiya Janata Party.

He said, "Be that militant, or any one, they are Kashmiris, they are our brothers. We should not celebrate their killing", said Mir, who represents the Watchi constituency in Kashmir's Shopian.

NC leader Akbar Lone said PDP is the party of contradictions which on one hand kills militants, and on the other calls them "martyrs", NDTV reported. "Otherwise, if any mainstream leader makes such statements, he will be booked under the public safety act and his security will be withdrawn", Mir told The Telegraph.

"It is the PDP MLA who has said this".

In reply to another question whether he considered militants his brothers, the MLA from from South Kashmir's Wachi said, "Of course yes, they (militants) are Kashmiris".

His comments, however, drew a sharp reaction from BJP which is in alliance with PDP in the state. "People are waiting for the answer", he added. In a stinging response, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "Terrorists and separatists are enemies of Kashmir, Kashmiris, development and peace".
