Trump Plans to Bring Eight Cabinet Members to Davos

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will go with Trump, the people said.

The two leaders also spoke over phone ahead of their Davos meeting.

The U.S. typically sends a high-ranking delegation to the meeting of government and business leaders.

During the call, Trump underscored that Iran must stop its "destabilizing activity" in the region.?

"The cutting of regulation and all of the many things that we've done, including being a cheerleader for the country - and perhaps that's part of the reason I'm going to Davos also - but being a cheerleader for the country", Trump said. Trump will be only the second sitting president to attend the Davos conference, after former President Clinton.

President Donald Trump plans to bring a big delegation with him to the small Swiss ski town of Davos in two weeks, including eight Cabinet members and some of the White House's senior staff.

The delegation is larger than the one that accompanied Vice President Joe Biden in 2016, a group that included six Cabinet secretaries and drew notice for coming during the Obama administration's lame duck year.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders added that Trump would talk to world leaders about correcting trade imbalances. They will arrive on Monday and leave Wednesday in part to free hotel rooms for Trump's delegation, which arrives on Thursday, the person said. "We have obviously been very clear with the Chinese on the issue that we have with the trade deficit, making sure that United States companies can compete fairly".

"I think the idea is the economic team is going to go over and talk about the America First economic strategy", Mnuchin said. The president will "talk a lot about his economic program and the impact on the global economy", the secretary said.
