Army Day: 3 Jawans Injured in Mishap During Rehearsal

In a shocking incident, three jawans got injured at Delhi-based Cantonment playground while rehearsing ahead of Indian Army Day Parade, an event celebrated on January 15th every year, in the honour of Lieutenant General KM Kariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.

"Slithering operation ceases for all ALH with immediate effect after the accident".

In a freaky incident on Jan 9, three jawans of the Indian Army got injured during a practice drill ahead of the Army Day on Jan 15. It occurred due to the malfunction of the boom in the helicopter.

The jawans were rushed to the hospital immediately.

Following the incident, the Army has suspended slithering operations involving ALH Dhruv till a probe is completed, the sources said. "An investigation is in progress", said an Army officer. The slithering operations, which involve troops slipping down a rope usually from a helicopter, is a method used to drop troops in an area of action when a chopper cannot land. Following the incident, display of slithering operations has been cancelled for the Army Day parade on January 15, sources in the Indian Army said. The ceremony is being held annually on this day since 1949. This helicopter is an indigenously developed and manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
