Arsene Wenger opens up about Arsenal star's potential departure

Wenger said: "It looks like Sanchez will not extend his contract".

Sources told the BBC that Sanchez prefers to go to Manchester City and that there have been conversations between the clubs.

Rio Ferdinand has angered several Manchester United fans with his advice for Alexis Sanchez.

United would have no problem in meeting Arsenal's demands and similarly would have no qualms paying the agent's fee having handed Mino Raiola £41m when they secured the then world record purchase of Paul Pogba. "The only word I can say is he is a phenomenal player, apart from that an Arsenal player and I feel I shouldn't say much more than this".

Sanchez has been linked with a move to Old Trafford twice before - when he left Udinese for Barcelona in a £23m deal in 2011, and again when he joined Arsenal three years later for £33m.

"It's unethical to speak about other clubs' players and the manager has always said that".

If Sanchez ends up staying at Arsenal this month, which is very possible, City will fancy their chances of landing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

It is to be seen where Sanchez ends up joining but it is for certain that the Chilean will not be an Arsenal player at the start of next season.

Manchester United are firmly in the running to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, with Jose Mourinho believing the club can not afford to miss out on "phenomenal" players like the Chile worldwide.

It's pretty clear that Alexis wants to move to City, and reports have said that personal terms have been agreed for some time now, the two teams just need to agree a price.

"Honestly I can not tell you much more at the moment about this situation, because nothing is really concrete at the moment".

It doesn't rule them out of signing Sanchez; City are ready to wait until June when the player's contract expires.

When asked at a press conference if United were interested in signing the 29-year-old Chilean worldwide, Wenger said "nothing is really concrete at the moment". I am focused on Liverpool. "So they want a combination of the two, which big clubs can give them", Wenger continued. We appreciate what a good player he is.
