Samsung's 146-inch television 'The Wall' is as big as a wall

Among Samsung's various CES announcements were some innovative new TVs. Therefore, consumers will have nothing to fear when they purchase products and services directly from Samsung's new TVs.

The second exceptional TV on the South Korean manufacturer's stand is the world's first 88-inch 8K OLED TV, pushing back the limits even further with more than 33 million pixels (7680x4320) - 16 times more than regular Full HD (1920x1080). Watch this space, it looks like the next generation of TVs are on the horizon and Samsung is leading the charge. "We're excited about this next step along our roadmap to the future of screen technology, and the remarkable viewing experience it offers to consumers", said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. This means that the TV display can be made smaller if required.

As was the case in 2017, LG's flagship is still the incredibly thin Signature "wallpaper" TV, which relocates most of its internals and connection ports to a soundbar which sits beneath. This is the heart and soul of the new Wall TV from the company and Samsung is promising that it will be part of the "screen of the future".

Ever the videophile, Andru is also keeping his eye on the new TVs being announced, including a giant, 146-inch TV from Samsung called simply The Wall.

Furthermore, just as is the case with OLED, the pixels (any one of several million of them inside a micro LED 4K TV bar) can turn off or on completely on an individual basis for flawless scene dimming and bright highlights. Samsung says that the same old technology won't work with 8K anymore, and that's where AI comes in.

Unsurprisingly, voice assistants have been a huge presence this year - chiefly Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant.

"Consumers are telling us it is hard and confusing to try to find what they want to watch", he said. Together with AI technology, TVs are now featuring "smart" video processing capability and superior image quality.

Secondly, you can adjust the height of the TV for certain types of content - mostly movies - that aren't filmed in the typical 16:9 aspect ratio of most TVs. But I was interested to see a couple of vendors, such as Stream TV and Changhong (working with technology from MirraViz), pushing glasses-free 3DTVs.

It was a move to stop Roku's own TV operating system from monopolizing the budget and mid-range market, but at CES 2018 it was nowhere to be seen.
