All 162 passengers and six crew members have survived an extraordinary runway excursion accident which left a Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737-800 precariously balanced on a steep cliff slope at Trabzon.

Dramatic images from CNN Turk broadcaster showed the plane dangerously hanging off a cliff several metres (feet) from the Black Sea, its wheels stuck in the mud. However, the images of the plane about to fall off into the Black Sea gives an idea just how miraculous the plane's escape has been.

Passenger Yuksel Gordu told Turkey's official Anadolu news agency that words weren't enough to describe their fear.

"We swerved all of a sudden", she said.

"We tilted to the side, the front was down while the plane's rear was up". Yavuz said the cause of the incident was not yet known and the airport was closed until 08:00 a.m. local (05:00 GMT).
