Baby found abandoned outside rushed to hospital

Police initially said the baby was located just before 11 an alleyway at a commercial complex in the area of Keele Street and Lawrence Avenue West.

Toronto Police say they don't believe they'll lay charges against the mom of a newborn baby boy who allegedly fabricated a story the infant was abandoned behind a North York Wal-Mart Tuesday morning. The person told police they heard the baby crying and wrapped it in a white hoodie and ran home with the child before calling 911.

According to the police source, who spoke to CP24, the woman, who is under the age of 20, gave birth alone Monday morning in a Toronto home after a "secret" pregnancy.

Const. David Hopkinson says the mother is receiving medical care, but declined to provide further details.

The newborn was rushed to hospital with the umbilical cord still attached.

Jenifferjit Sidhu told CTV News Channel that the baby was conscious, breathing and "murmuring" when it was discovered.

Police do not yet know when or where the baby was born.

The CAS said the baby was transported to Humber River Hospital.

Police are concerned for the health of the mother, and asking anyone with information about the investigation to contact 12 Division police at 416-808-1200.
