SC police say officer shot, killed in ambush

The suspect, McCall, left the home on foot before deputies arrived, Faris said, and police dogs were brought in to search for him.

The escort took Detective Doty's body first to the medical examiner's office and then eventually home in York County.

Mike Doty was 37 years old, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the sheriff's office.

A manhunt ensued, culminating in an ambush by McCall, who opened fire on the deputies in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Randy Clinton is awaiting surgery. An additional K-9 officer was also injured, Fox said.

No one answered the door at McCall's two-story brick home later Tuesday morning.

Officials have not said how badly those deputies were injured but officials said the suspect has been taken down.

Domestic violence call leads to shooting.

He was charged with three counts of attempted murder for the three officers who were less seriously wounded.

"We can really use your prayers and we can really use your thoughts right now for those officers", deputies said.

Doty was the Law Enforcement Officer Narcan Program coordinator for the sheriff's office and was also a member of the York County Sheriff's Office SWAT Entry Team, as well as an associate advisor for the York County Explorer Post 1786, WSOC reports.

"When family dies, it hurts", Helms said late Wednesday. The helicopter was struck in the rear stabilizer but the pilot continued to fly, according to officials.

There was an outpouring of support for the York County Sheriff's Department and York Police Department following the incident.

SLED is investigating the shooting.

Doty started with the sheriff's office in 2006 after working for the York Police Department.

The York County Sheriff's Office announced Doty's passing on Twitter Wednesday evening.
