'Senator Dicky Durbin' Misrepresented My Comments From Immigration Meeting

The Department of International Relations and Co-operation (Dirco) said on Monday that it had met counterparts at the United States embassy and the USA charge d'affaires to "express SA's concerns with regard to the reports about statements that were allegedly made by President Donald Trump with regard to Africa and certain other countries".

Trump on Friday tweeted a convoluted denial about the comments, which were reported by The Washington Post and The New York Times and confirmed by Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, who attended the meeting at which they were said to have been spoken. "I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed". "I've not seen one of them that's inaccurate". Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) was at the immigration meeting with Trump.

According to reports, Trump decried immigration from "shithole countries", like Haiti and African nations, questioning why the US should admit people from such countries over immigrants from countries like Norway. The Republican has said that the comments "weren't made" and that he's not a racist.

State Department officials said diplomats have been advised not to try to interpret or soften the President's remarks. The White House has not denied that Trump used a vulgar term, and there appears to be little difference in meaning between the two words.

The secretary of the Homeland Security Department is testifying under oath that she "did not hear" President Donald Trump use a certain vulgarity to describe African countries.

"He said, 'Put me down for wanting more Europeans to come to this country".

A bipartisan deal to resolve the Dreamers issue in return for changes demanded by Republicans in the way visas are allocated collapsed in acrimony Thursday over Trump's remarks. They said Trump expressed a preference for immigrants from countries like Norway, which is overwhelmingly white.

Trump himself marked the day with a videotaped speech posted on Twitter that alluded to King's celebrated "I Have a Dream" speech. Two GOP senators who were also in that meeting-David Perdue of Georgia and Tom Cotton of Arkansas-went on network TV to say Durbin wasn't telling the truth about what Trump said. Trump said Democrats aren't for securing the border or stopping the flow of drugs, but are for taking money away from the military. Trump announced a year ago that he will end the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, unless lawmakers come up with a solution by March.

A confidant of Trump told The Associated Press that the president spent Thursday evening calling friends and outside advisers to judge their reaction to his remarks.
