United Nations chief: Threat from nukes, other weapons, gathers force

While the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has verified Iran's compliance, Trump continues to deride the agreement, calling for more sanctions on the Islamic Republic particularly for its ballistic missile program and human rights abuses, which were not part of the JCPOA.

"We will not support what the United States is trying to do, changing the wording of the agreement, incorporating things that will be absolutely unacceptable for Iran", Lavrov told a news conference in Moscow.

The comments came days after U.S. President Donald Trump extended a waiver on nuclear sanctions that were imposed on Iran. "We proceed from the fact that the total elimination of nuclear weapons is possible only in the context of general and complete disarmament, in conditions of ensuring equal and indivisible security for all, including those who possess nuclear weapons, as stipulated in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons [NPT]", Lavrov said speaking at a UN Security Council meeting.

"The UN Security Council called on Iran to halt any activity related to nuclear capable ballistic missiles - and this legislation mandates a snapback of all our toughest sanctions if Iran violates that Security Council directive".

The agreement has lifted all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran. The UN Security Council held Thursday a high-level meeting on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, which is attended by presidents such as the Kazakh Nursultan Nazarbayev and the Polish Andrzej Duda, among others. Iran's own enriched uranium is of a different code from the fuel the Russian-built station needs.Besides that, Iran is developing two generations of medium- and long-range missiles that, because they are fitted with small warheads, only make military sense if they are meant to carry nuclear payloads. The danger of Iran developing a nuclear arsenal remains.

Speaking at the Security Council on Thursday, Lavrov said the overwhelming majority of the worldwide community recognizes that the 2015 agreement between Iran and the six world powers of Britain, China, France, Russia, the U.S. plus Germany is making a tangible contribution to strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime and to the maintenance of global peace and security, Xinhua reported. It is that the Obama fudge has not worked.

Iran has denied that it has missiles created to carry nuclear warheads. But they must first learn to temper their hate.
