The live show held at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles with Kristen Bell serving as the host also honored Morgan Freeman with the Life Achievement Award for his work in film, in addition to his humanitarian accomplishments.

He stars as Randall Pearson on "This Is U", the role that earned him his second Emmy award in 2017, for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series".

"Three Billboards" was again a victor in the film categories, earning a Best Actress award for Frances McDormand, a Supporting Actor trophy for Sam Rockwell, and the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture? the SAG Awards equivalent of Best Picture.

British star Gary Oldman, hotly tipped for an Oscar for his turn as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, picked up the best actor prize.

One of the evening's highlights was the presentation of a lifetime achievement award to Morgan Freeman.

The show is also focusing its spotlight on women, with almost all female presenters, all women opening the show and a first-ever host in actress Kristen Bell.

"You have no idea how long I had to put up with that", Freeman joked in response.

Dreyfus, who had won the award five times earlier for Seinfeld and the rest for Veep, could not make it to the ceremony as she is undergoing treatment for breast cancer. "'I think my first initiative as first lady will be cyberbullying" she continued, making an obvious jibe at Melania Trump's previous choice of initiative.

"Frances, you're a powerhouse", Rockwell said.

"I just beg that the industry stays behind us because our stories are finally being told", she said.

Three Billboards also won best ensemble, the event's most prestigious award, while Sam Rockwell took home the best supporting actor statuette for his role as a police officer in the film. "This is not the case now", she said.

"How wonderful that our careers today can go beyond 40 years old". "From the front, it's gender-specific", he added, referring to the trophy's masculine design.

In "Big Little Lies", Kidman played Celeste Wright, a woman and mother who struggles to remove herself from an abusive situation.

The 24th annual Screen Actor's Guild Award proved to be a true celebration of the power of women, with many hosts taking the opportunity to thank the "silence breakers" who made strides to end sexual harassment and abuse in the entertainment industry.
