Facebook is testing DownVote button for Comments

While the option to have an "angry" or "sad" reaction to your Facebook friends' posts is nice, what users have really wanted all this time is a simple "dislike" button - and it looks like the social media platform may finally be giving it to us.

A select few users noticed Thursday a downvote option appeared underneath comments on posts, next to the "like" and "reply" buttons.

On pressing the downvote button (as seen in the picture provided by Christina Hudler below), Facebook hides the comments and provides users options with like "Offensive", "Misleading", and "Off Topic".

While this has been a long-pending move, Facebook has continued to operate with the Like button itself. "That's why today we are launching Reactions, an extension of the Like button, to give you more ways to share your reaction to a post in a quick and easy way".

"One of the things we've heard people tell us over and over again is they want a "Dislike" button, because not everything is likeable content", Zhuo said at Fusion's Real Fortune Fair in 2015. The giant will come to rescue if the comments are getting more DownVotes from the users. You can choose the right option to send feedback to Facebook regarding this comment. Moreover, the visibility of the post to which the comments were made would not be negatively impacted, so others would still be able to see the post in their news feeds.

A downvote button would be is similar to what users find on Reddit, which allows users to upvote and downvote comments on a post as a marker of popularity.

This website uses cookies to ensure that we give you the best experience. However, it remains unclear as to when the feature may be rolled out. They have even shared proper Screenshots about this new DownVote feature as well. The social network confirmed the test to news site Tech Crunch.

Over the years, people have debated about the possible introduction of the dislike button to the social media platform.
