Lions Sign Bob Quinn To Contract Extension

Lions Sign Bob Quinn To Contract Extension

The extended contract term for Quinn ensures organizational stability for the GM and head coach, the team said in a news release. Moreover, I greatly enjoy my relationship and partnership with Bob. Patricia was Quinn's first head-coaching hire after Jim Caldwell held the job for Quinn's first two years in Detroit. The hiring of Matt Patricia as their next head coach could lead to a renewed effort in instituting a larger involvement of runs plays, and possibly adding pieces to the backfield to help achieve that goal.

Quinn was hired to replace Martin Mayhew (and the interim Sheldon White) in 2016. The Lions have finished 9-7 in both seasons under Quinn, making the playoffs in 2016 and missing them this past season. Patricia had been the defensive coordinator in New England and spent 13 years with the organization. His time as an NFL special teams coach dates to 1986, when he first broke into the league with New Orleans following a stint with the USFL's Philadelphia Stars.

"Thank you to Mrs. Ford, her family, and Rod Wood for their continued support and belief in my ability to lead this football team", Quinn said in a statement released by the team. Notably, his pickups on the offensive line have not produced better results in the passing game (47 sacks last year) or the running game (last in 2017).

Dunbar also took an National Football League job this week, becoming the defensive-line coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Still, there's no question the organization is closer to competing now than when Quinn took over.

David Corrao is the Lions' new director of football research.

"I am pleased that we have reached an agreement with Bob on an extension to his contract", Lions owner and chairman Martha Firestone Ford said in a statement.

The Lions have ranked in the bottom of the league in rushing, which is something that general manager Bob Quinn believes can be corrected through a collective effort, according to Justin Rogers of The Detroit News.
