The Swansea manager has been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League since his arrival in December, helping the Swans turn their very bad form around with wins over Watford, Liverpool and Arsenal, as well as a stunning 8-1 result over Notts County in the FA Cup.

Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal says they controlled the game against Burnley and deserved the 1-0 win for their hard work.

Swansea have now taken 14 points from 21 since Carvalhal succeeded Paul Clement, climbing from the bottom of the Premier League into 15th place. "It was very deep and dark". There were only stones and no fish - we couldn't see anything.

"We won some games, to put our noses out of the water - it was the first time we'd smelled the fresh air". "We were a bit huff and puff today, and it feels like the injuries are beginning to take their toll".

"But we must continue to swim to reach the coastline".

"Now, in this moment, we have started swimming and we can now go to the coast".

I am 28 and still have a lot to give. The fans, the chairman, the kit man, the people in the press all have a contribution. That is important for players. "The club have given that to him, so I am not surprised and I have always thought he was an incredible player". But it's a deserved win.

But Carvalhal insisted fighting relegation is no laughing matter, saying: "The situation is still serious - but we have a better chance now of staying in the Premier League".

"We put all the meat on the fire, on the barbecue".

Burnley had the better of the chances in a tight encounter in south Wales, with Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes both going close for Sean Dyche's side before Ki struck late on to continue Swansea's remarkable revival.

Carvalhal is an engaging character whose descriptions of his January transfer targets - "I will look to the lobsters and sea bass, but if not we must buy sardines" - or likening beating Liverpool to "stopping a Formula 1 auto in London traffic" have caused enormous reactions on social media. "The game wasn't easy". After recovering from a hamstring injury, Andre is looking to break into a Swansea team that are unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions and hammered Notts County 8-1 in an FA Cup replay during the week.

"He [Carvalhal] has played a huge role in helping the team turn results around", Ayew added.
