Hundreds take the Polar Plunge in Lexington

Rochester's Polar Plunge is back, once again raising thousands of dollars for Special Olympics Minnesota. She said this is their eighth year participating.

LETR is one of the largest grassroots fundraisers for Special Olympics globally.

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas- As temperatures dropped, people in Farmers Branch jumped in a cold pool for a good cause.

"We encourage teams, costumes and silliness", Overman said.

Rachel Pate took part in the Polar Plunge.

Manhattan Polar Plunge raises money for Special Olympics

Saturday's plunge was supported by the Wertz Warriors and was one of 28 plunges in the state.

"It's a great cause that us athletes can raise awareness for other athletes who want to be involved but might not have the same opportunities we have been afforded", said sophomore baseball player Connor Sullivan. Dragos is also on the Special Olympics board, and WZZM is the media sponsor for the Polar Plunges.

Special Olympics benefits more than 13,000 athletes.

Those courageous enough to run into the icy waters of the river are invited to join the committee and Special Olympics athletes to raise money for Special Olympics by collecting pledges and coming out to plunge. "I'm proud of our results!"
