Jese Rodriguez in Stoke City penalty bust-up against Brighton

Jose Izquierdo picked up the ball from deep and after exchanging passes in a slick rhythm with two team mates, put it past Jack Butland.

Brighton goalkeeper Mathew Ryan dived to his right to keep out Adam's spot kick to ensure Stoke wasted a glorious opportunity to move out of the relegation zone.

The Potters faithful were up, but Brighton stayed defiant, with another shot coming in from Stoke which Anthony Knockaert cleared off the line with his head. It was a superb team goal, with Solly March and Dale Stephens involved.

Then the drama began as Xherdan Shaqiri's goal made it 1-1, the Swiss midfielder picked up the ball on the edge of the box and curling a delightful low strike into the far corner.

The Seagulls switched off and nearly conceded an equaliser from the restart, as Badou Ndiaye fired a volley just wide of Maty Ryan's right hand post.

Pascal Gross had ample time to pick out a cross from the left and the onrushing Davy Propper headed over the top from the centre of the area. It was one of the most breathless finishes of the season. That was the precursor to a stunning ending that started when Jese was felled by Stephens.

Paul Lambert played down the on-pitch altercation between Jese Rodriguez and Charlie Adam and instead hailed the desire of Stoke City players for wanting to win.

Lewis Dunk then made a lunging challenge to prevent Adam from converting the rebound.
