Red Gerard competes in the men's slopestyle snowboard final at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 on February 11, 2018 in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Gerard was the only American qualifying for Sunday's 12-man final, with fellow Americans Chris Corning, Kyle Mack and Ryan Stassel falling short in Saturday's qualifying runs.

When his time came, Gerard nailed it.

Gerard scored 87.16 on his final run to jump ahead of McMorris, who topped the standings with a score of 85.20 following the first two runs. "The judging is out of your hands and so you just have to try your best and that is what I did and I was rewarded".

Kleveland opened the competition before a 3000-strong crowd, dominating the first round of qualification heats with a best score of 83.71 but ultimately finishing third behind McMorris and Parrot.

Parrot fell in his first two runs but nailed his third to bump McMorris out of the silver medal position with a score of 86.00. He would never improve on that to finish fifth.

Mark McMorris overcame a whole lot more than nerves to win his second consecutive bronze medal. Afterwards, Parrot admitted to feeling the pressure going into the final run of the morning.

"I think it doesn't really matter (what medal you get) as long as you are out here riding and boarding as good as you can", enthused McMorris.

It was a disappointing day for Norway, who had three riders in the competition.
