Lives being shattered by mere allegation

"Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by mere allegation". "Some are true and some are false".

Later on Friday, the White House said a second Trump administration official had resigned over allegations of domestic abuse.

Kelly and Hicks have come under criticism for their handling of domestic abuse accusations against White House staff secretary Rob Porter, who resigned Wednesday after two former wives said he physically abused them.

The tendency to avoid, deny, or cover up abuse is never really about power, or money, or an old boys' club.

In 2010, Porter was handed a protection order against him as a result of his wives' allegations. Wynn denies any harassment or abuse. They are automatically so if a clearance is denied, unless the President himself overrules the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

While reports say that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was told of allegations against Porter past year - and that Kelly had long known of them - Conway said Trump found out only along with other Americans. "He has said this in the past about incidents that relate to him as well".

"Before we were contacted by the media, we learned last night that there were allegations", Shah said in a statement. But as far as he was concerned, the alleged predator was a good person and a friend.

A recent Government Accountability Office study found that the security clearance investigation backlog was at some 190,000 cases in August 2014, but surged to over 709,000 by September 2017. Look what he's done. "I think he's very disturbed by it, and I think he's very disappointed". "John Kelly knows that he serves at the pleasure of the president and he will step aside as soon as - any time the president doesn't want him to be there".

Trump then stressed that he "was very sad" to hear about the accusation against him. "He worked very hard", Trump said, defending Porter.

There are also now questions about White House Chief of Staff John Kelly's future, although officials said the president does not intend to fire him.

Despite Trump's endorsement, Moore lost the special election to fill the Senate seat to Democratic candidate Doug Jones.

Mr Trump's latest comments suggest that this week's resignations - particularly Mr Porter's - were jolting at the highest levels.

She went on to say that even though she recognized Porter's need for help she would not tolerate abuse, just like she could not condone Trump's choice to support "their golden boy".

However, Trump has been more comfortable making allegations about others. The president, she said, "is sympathetic to women and men who are victims of domestic violence".

Porter has also denied the allegations, calling them "simply false".

"As a brown man, who the president has, by the way, not only treated me incredibly well, but that's really besides the point", Cortes said, "he's treated my community incredibly well".
