S Korean PM hosts lunch for North Korean delegation

North and South Korea are technically still at war after their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce rather than a peace treaty.

Vice President Mike Pence is cheering on US speed skaters at the Winter Olympics, before departing South Korea for Washington on Saturday. "But we'll see what happens". She said her brother would like to meet Moon "in the near future and would like to ask President Moon to visit North Korea at his earliest convenience", according to the Blue House.

North and South Korea first displayed the flag of unified Korea, a white flag with the shape of the Korean peninsula on it in blue colour, during the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships and at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Moon did not immediately accept the invitation.

The CNN article came shortly after many liberals cheered Kim Yo Jong for giving Vice President Mike Pence a "deadly side eye" during the Olympic games.

On the same day, Moon and the North's delegation also jointly attended the opening match of the unified women's ice hockey team, which is comprised of athletes from the two Koreas.

The two agreed to put off the drills until after the February 9-25 PyeongChang Olympic Games and the March 9-18 Paralympics.

"As someone who competed in four Olympics and knows it isn't about you, your team, or your country, I saw the power of what it did last night", Ruggiero said. It is also a loaded message that North Korea is willing to be a part of the "comity of nations" but not at the terms dictated by the US. "His behaviour is nothing but an ugly sight being reminded of insane Trump".

Officials in the Trump administration have previously said a North Korean commitment to denuclearization up front was necessary to kick start talks.

"The point is, no pressure comes off until they are actually doing something that the alliance believes represents a meaningful step toward denuclearization", Pence was quoted as saying.

While President Trump and Vice President Pence proceed to use severe rhetoric when discussing relations with North Korea, the governments of the two Koreas are continuing to take diplomatic steps to ease tensions that have existed between them for decades.

Chang Je-won, a spokesman for Liberty Korea Party, said: We should firmly keep in mind any talks, where denuclearisation is not a precondition, only buy North Korea more time to complete its nuclear capabilities while they fool us with their peace offensive facade.

Japan does not participate in the military exercises, but it is within reach of North Korean missiles and relies heavily on USA forces and their readiness to deal with that threat. Pyon said he doesn't have big expectations from his skiers.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in December said the US was willing to talk to North Korea "without precondition", while stipulating that any dialogue would need to take place following a "period of calm".
