Trump accuses Democrats of playing politics with memo

"The Democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew. would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the White House for lack of transparency", Trump said.

Citing national security concerns, the White House notified the House Intelligence Committee on Friday that the president was "unable" to declassify the Democratic memo. Trump might have been able to obstruct the release of a memo, but soon he might be powerless to stop Schiff and the Russian Federation investigation.

President Trump is expected to declassify the Democratic rebuttal memo on Friday, an official said. "Now they claim when they release the Republican memo that this was in the interest of full transparency and all the people were saying full transparency". "The meaning of the "(and more)" was not immediately clear.

But Trump has blocked the Democratic document, which tries to counter the Republican allegations of surveillance excesses.

Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee are prepared to black out parts of their memo about the FBI's Russian Federation investigation to ensure there's no harmful spilling of secrets, then try again to get President Donald Trump to let it come out.

White House counsel Don McGahn says in a letter to the committee that the memo contains "numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages" and asked the intelligence panel to revise the memo with the help of the Justice Department.

"Which is it, hurting national security or not?" he said. Within the next 11 minutes, interest in the Democratic memo reached "peak popularity", as indicated by a value of 100 on Google Trends' search monitor, which tracks patterns in Google searches over time. "There ought to be ways in which the Democrats, the intel committee, can rewrite the memo without compromising sources and methods and get the full story out about what they feel is misleading about the Nunes memo".

He went on to ridicule what he characterized as the contents of the Democrats' rebuttal memo. Rosenstein is now overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into whether there was any connection between Russians and Trump associates during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff has blasted the Republican memo as a deliberate effort at undermining special counsel Robert Mueller's probe.

The document in question was authored by Democrats on the intelligence panel. "Their memo is sitting at the House Intelligence Committee down at the bottom of the Capitol waiting to be redacted", the California Republican told Fox News.

They say it disputes many claims in the GOP memo, which accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department of abusing their surveillance powers in obtaining a secret warrant to monitor former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page. Republicans argued that the reliance on Steele's material politicized the government's surveillance powers.
