Moon was all smiles Saturday as he greeted Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, and Kim Yong Nam, the country's 90-year-old nominal head of state, for lunch at the presidential residence.

Earlier on Saturday, Kim invited Moon for talks in Pyongyang, setting the stage for the first meeting of Korean leaders in more than 10 years.

North Korean state media on Monday said its high-level delegation's trip to South Korea was "meaningful" and it improved stalled inter-Korean relations.

He was referring to the North Korean leader's invitation for Moon to visit the North. Moon had said "let's create conditions to make it happen", the official said, an indication that Moon was likely to accept the invitation.

She joined South Korean President Moon Jae-in, his wife and VIPs in their dignitary box to watch the opening ceremony.

As ever, its front page lead story was on the activities of leader Kim Jong Un - in this instance, being given a gift by Zimbabwe's visiting air force commander.

The Winter Olympics have driven a rapid rapprochement on the Korean peninsula, where fears of a new conflict mounted a year ago as the nuclear-armed North carried out a series of missile tests and its most powerful atomic blast to date. A Blue House official initially said the president had accepted Kim's offer, but that was later denied by chief spokesman Yoon Young-chan.

If the meeting takes place, it will be only the third - after meetings in 2000 and 2007 - between the leaders of the two countries since the Korean War.

Analysts believe its diplomacy is seeking to weaken the measures against it, and could be trying to loosen the alliance between Seoul and Washington. Its state media has condemned US Vice-President Mike Pence, who avoided direct contact with Mr Kim Yong Nam at a dinner hosted by Mr Moon on Friday.

You can see some images of Kim at the meeting with Moon below.

Pence, who is leading the USA delegation to the Olympics, briefly encountered Kim Yong-nam at the Games but the two tried to avoid directly facing each other.

The games have turned into an opportunity to cool tensions between the two Koreas, after initial doubt that North Korea would participate at all.

Although the United States and North Korea have been hurling threats at one another since Donald Trump stepped into office, South Korea remains a strong ally for the U.S. The delegation is expected to head back to the North later Sunday.

The meeting comes after the USA warned against engagement with Pyongyang.
