Bill Paxton's family files wrongful death lawsuit

Bill Paxton's family has filed a wrongful death suit against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and the surgeon who operated on the actor before he passed away past year. He suffered a catastrophic stroke after undergoing valve replacement and aortic aneurysm fix surgery.

His widow Louise Paxton, son James, daughter Lydia and his estate filed suit late last week in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging wrongful death, negligence and battery on the part of cardiovascular surgeon Ali Khoynezhad and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Dr Khoynezhad, now working at a different hospital, is believed to have left the site without arranging adequate care before Paxton suffered the complications, the lawsuit added.

It has been almost a year when Apollo 13 star Bill Paxton passed away due to complications from surgery.

In a press release, which was issued along with the suit, attorney Steve Heimberg also revealed that Khoynezhad left Cedars-Sinai Medical Center shortly after Paxton's unexpected passing. The document alleges that Paxton consulted Khoynezhad, Cedars-Sinai and other defendants in connection with cardiac conditions that included bicuspid aortic valve and aortic aneurysm.

Paxton subsequently suffered complications including excessive bleeding, cardiogenic shock, right ventricular dysfunction and a compromised right coronary artery, according to the lawsuit.

The hospital in a statement to THR said, "State and federal privacy laws prevent us from commenting about patient care without written authorization".

"Nothing is more important to Cedars-Sinai than the health and safety of our patients", a hosptial statement said.

"These remain our top priorities", the statement said.

"One of the reasons for our high quality is that we thoroughly review concerns about any patient's medical auto", the statement continues.

Furthermore, they say Khoynezhad neglected to provide continuing care after he left and caused a delay in treatment and further cardiac damage by not returning to the OR after being notified of what was happening to Paxton. He starred in the HBO series Big Love from 2006-2011 playing the lead role of Bill Henrickson.
