Rare says Sea of Thieves will never implement loot crates

On the one hand, the player-base on Sea of Thieves might be well over Rare expectations thanks to players not having to put money down to access the title on launch day (you can subscribe to Xbox Games Pass for £7.99 per month).

Mike Chapman, the design director, was pretty categorical while talking with PC Gamer.

Thankfully, if the Sea of Thieves PC specs are any indication, the game may be better optimized for the platform than expected. At all, ' said Chapman. They'll be strictly cosmetic and will add an emotional feeling to the game. "What we will say is there will never be loot crates in Sea of Thieves". As the game has been developed by a Microsoft studio, it will not be available on Sony's PlayStation 4.

"Ultimately, as long as you've got Windows 10, you've got access to Sea of Thieves".

As we add additional stuff to the game down the line, there's no intent to charge for the content updates - there's no season pass, there are no DLC packs, that stuff will be delivered for free, we don't want to separate our players.
You will also earn a legendary ship, but Rare wouldn't go into much detail, other than to say that it "has access to things other ships don't".

The randomly-generated pirates come in all shapes and sizes, but if you're not pleased with the selection you can pick eight more. The game will, however, feature a premium shop, but you'll always know what you're buying. "People can do the mod if they want to, but they've got braver stomachs than mine".

"But as we move into our service and we start growing and updating the game, at that point we'll turn on the option for players to optionally spend in there". "We have to run that like a business, you need revenue coming in". "That's a hard and fast principal to us", concludes Duncan. "[At launch], there's a lore book, featuring adventures of early players in the game's production, a separate art book, a comic, a Limited Edition controller, a branded SeaGate HDD, a tankard and more". Do you plan on getting Sea of Thieves or will you be walking the plank?
