The Middle East is on the brink of a major imperial clash

"Assad and Hezbollah are the same, and if there will be an attack against us, we will not be obligated to act only against the source of the attack", he said during an interview on Army Radio. We consider it necessary to unconditionally respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and other countries of the region.

"Those should leave Syria who are there without the permission of the Syrian legal government".

Lebanon is protesting Israel's use of its airspace to target Syria, saying it will complain to the UN Security Council. Gen. Ronen Manelis, said in a statement.

Israel has now sent warplanes to attack sites in the war-torn country, further complicating an already complex picture.

Iran´s involvement in Syria, including the deployment of Iran-backed forces near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, has alarmed Israel, which has said it would counter any threat and has mounted regular attacks into Syria. "It is their most advanced drone and they did not expect our radar to detect its penetration into our territory", an unnamed senior Israeli defense official told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday, a day after the infiltration. After all, if the drone had not been over Israeli airspace, it would have been far harder for Israel to justify its actions.

In May 2014, Iran said it had built a copy of the drone after reverse engineering most of its technology, citing the Tasnim News Agency.

The US, in pursuit of IS fighters, has mistakenly killed Syrian forces, and Russian Federation has accidentally struck US-backed forces.

All of this points to further conflicts between Israel and Iran's Shia crescent, with the US being notably missing in the conflict as they focus on exterminating the remnants of ISIS.

Israel has shown resolve in blocking Iran where possible, and last weekend's attack is case in point.

Whatever the differences in goals and tactics of the imperialist and reactionary militaries intervening against Syria's people - which include the US, its European NATO imperialist allies, Turkey, Israel and various reactionary sectarian militias - the people of Syria have the right to fight and to make their own alliances to preserve their independence and national sovereignty against any and all of these forces.

A former chief of Israeli military intelligence put it this way "Israel has the capability to destroy the Russian and Iranian project to save the Assad regime".

Both moves threaten Israel from the north. Both Turkey and Iran are anxious due to their Kurdish minorities, which have argued for independence in decades past. The drone was shot down and eight jets dispatched to wreak revenge, one of which, a US-supplied F-16, was shot down on its way back.

Without the US confronting Iran directly, Goldberg wrote, "America will keep sleepwalking into an era of Iranian hegemony in the Middle East".

On February 10, Syrian forces had shot down Israel's F-16 warplane in response to Israeli "aggression" against army base in central Syria. One pilot was seriously wounded and the other lightly. But the Syrian regime's indebtedness to the Iranian theocracy for rescuing it from the dustbin of history during the ongoing civil war runs deep.

"God willing they will see more surprises whenever they try to attack Syria".

The TV broadcaster said sounds of explosions were heard Saturday in Reef Damascus province, near the capital. Iran probably understood what Israel was trying to do, as it responded accordingly by taking down an Israeli plane. It will be wary that such firepower should directly harm Russian elements on the ground, potentially provoking, for once, a military equal with firepower superior to its own. Should Iran turn course and limit its role in Syria to ease Israel's fears of being encircled by Iran and its proxies, Tehran will lose its credibility as a determined regional power that can support its allies during political and military confrontation with the West & Israel. Since the 2003 American invasion, Iraq also came under a certain degree of Iranian influence even though to a lesser extent than Syria. In the past few years, Hezbollah has "issued massive threats" towards Israel with military action.

Because it was the first time in over three decades that an Israeli jet was brought down by enemy fire, the immediate response by some analysts was to declare that the conflict in the region had entered a "new strategic phase". It says sirens sounded in northern Israel as a result of the anti-aircraft fire from Syria.

Iran's foreign ministry rejected as "ridiculous" reports that Israel had intercepted an Iranian drone launched from Syria on Saturday, state TV reported.
