In January, SoftBank Group led an investment deal worth $9.3 billion to make it the largest Uber shareholder.

He also landed in the midst of a court battle that pitted Uber against a Google spinoff alleging that the ride-hailing service had conspired to steal its self-driving auto technology while Kalanick was running things.

Dara Khosrowshahi, who became the American company's chief executive officer in August 2017, has set out his long-term vision for Uber, which apparently includes running buses, subways, and hire bike systems. Despite the turbulent 12 months, the sales revenue reached 7.5 billion Dollars.

Losses at the ride-sharing company Uber widened by 61 per cent to $4.5 billion past year but narrowed in the final quarter in a boost for its new chief executive.

Waymo had alleged that Anthony Levandowski, one of its former employees, had taken Waymo's trade secrets after leaving the company to found his own autonomous truck company, Otto. There are few historical precedents for the scale of its loss.

The latest financial report shows the company continues to increase its revenue while making progress on cutting its loss.

Uber didn't acknowledge any wrongdoing in the settlement that gave Waymo's corporate parent, Alphabet Inc., more stock in the ride-hailing service.

Google was one of the first investors in Uber, way back when it started, so this settlement will increase the search giant's stake in the company. Waymo was looking for $1.86 billion in damages in this lawsuit as well as a court order that would prohibit Uber from using the disputed technology.

Silicon Valley-based Uber's quarterly gross bookings rose 14 percent to $11.1 billion from the third quarter, the person said. Under Kalanick, Uber had run roughshod over regulators, faced accusations of rampant sexual harassment, and allegedly obtained medical records of a woman in who said an Uber driver in India had raped her (Uber recently settled a US lawsuit that the woman had filed against the company). The figure leaves out some legal costs and stock-based compensation, as well as taxes, interest and other expenses.

The call to 911 was made Tuesday morning after the teen's grandmother found what she believed were "upcoming and credible threats" to shoot students at his high school. All said and done, Uber ended the year with around $6 billion in cash, 13 percent lower than 2016. The company shared the numbers with technology news website the Information after the call and confirmed them to Bloomberg.
