Pregnant woman loses baby allegedly after CPI(M) leader kicks her

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Josna Sibi, had to undergo a forced abortion after the assault.

However, on the day the incident took place, one Saithalavi who was acting as a mediator went to the family's house at night along with eight men.

The woman, who was four and a half months pregnant, lost her child after a CPM leader named Thamby kicked on her stomach.

Thenamkuzhiyil Cibi Chacko and his wife were allegedly attacked on January 28 by a group of people who barged into their house at Velamcode Laksham Veedu Colony.

"We had filed a complaint regarding the land dispute earlier with the police and the police had warned them against any unruly behaviour".

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the case, whereas the main accused is still absconding. "A fight broke out despite the police warning, and Saidhalavi called around 6 men and they started assaulting my husband", said Josna.

"The local party workers are coming here daily, asking me to withdraw the complaint against Thampy", woman's husband said referring to the CPM leader.

The report added that the family has also alleged party members had pressurised them to withdraw the case.

"My decision is to fight the case till the end".

The incident came to light after Josna and her husband sat on a dharna in front of the Kodancherry police station on Wednesday, demanding an action against the criminals.

Meanwhile, CPI (M) leaders have denied all the charges raised against them in the incident.
