Sebastian Janikowski To Continue Playing Career

"The Raider Nation salutes Sebastian Janikowski as the sun sets on his illustrious career with the Oakland Raiders", Davis said.

Janikowski was replaced by kicker Giorgio Tavecchio past year when a back injury kept him on injured reserve throughout the season.

The soon-to-be 40-year-old is the Raiders' all-time leading scorer with 1,799 points, including 414 field goals.

Janikowski, who is an impending free agent, was told that the Raiders will not bring him back for the 2018 season, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

The former Florida State standout was selected by Oakland with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Janikowski just completed the final season of a four-year, $15.1 million contract. Many teams went through multiple kickers during last season.

The move is not surprising considering Janikowski sat out the entire 2017 season with a back injury. That means Janikowski, the longest tenured player in franchise history, will either switch teams for the first time since being drafted in the first round in 2000 or call it quits. Tavecchio converted 16 of 21 field goal attempts with a long of 53 yards and had 48 touchbacks while kicking off. Only a few days later he was placed on injured reserve. He also is tied with a few other National Football League players for the second longest field goal ever made at 63 yards.
