Sicario 2 director in talks to make the Call of Duty movie

Previously, Activision Blizzard Studios has confirmed that it plans for the Call of Duty movie to spawn a franchise similar to that of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, that would potentially include movies that are inspired from Black Ops and Modern Warfare. Snowden writer Kieran Fitzgerald has reportedly developed a script for the project that Sollima will develop if he agrees to direct. It was penned by Kieran Fitzgerald, the screenplay writer of Snowden who is also now scripting a second Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes sequel.

"Sicario 2: Soldado" is set to open on June 29 with Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin returning to star. For the reason of not repeating stories... and something else... something more sinister.

Last April, Sher and van Dyk both discussed that they were putting together a universe (oh... geez...) that will draw on the feel of different incarnations of the game rather than focusing on existing plots.

For now, Sollima is still in talks, so we'll let you know when they're signed on. However, no representative from Activision Blizzard Studios will confirm that the studio is in negotiations with the director at this time. The world of Call Of Duty is versatile enough to lend itself to a variety of possible film projects. "And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on".

Activision Blizzard Studios are said to be keen on Stefano Sollima to take the director's chair.

The film will be produced by Activision Blizzard Studios Presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk, along with Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard's chief executive. "It's a much more broad and inclusive, global in scope...a big, tentpole Marvel-esque movie", adding that he would like to emulate the way Marvel has crafted "these individual universes that interconnect and a timeline that makes sense with consistent themes and Easter eggs".
