Goa CM rules out setting up of a government-run mining corporation

State Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday attempted to diffuse the controversy by saying that everyone was welcome to the state, on the condition that they do not urinate on roads or add to the state's garbage woes.

"In fact, when the judgment about mining was pronounced, he (PM Narendra Modi) was not in India, but the next day, I got a call from his office inquiring about the possible economic impact of the verdict", Parrikar said. "I have called for a meeting of all the MLAs from the mining belt tomorrow to understand the impact and also discuss the situation", he said.

Parrikar also criticised the lack of hygienic conditions outside the Goa Medical College and Hospital, located near Panaji and warned of action.

His comments come after the Planning Minister of Goa Vijai Sardesai had said that domestic tourists are the 'scum of the earth'.

"We are lucky that Prime Minister has additional soft corner for Goa".

"Today, all the project work going on in the state in health, water supply, environment and roads, the Centre is contributing Rs 25,000 crore over a period of five years". But, the central government is already contributing 40% in our budget and on top of it, spending another Rs 25,000 crore.

Neelima told IANS that the campaign to meet Parrikar over a beer had drawn a healthy response on social media. I am pointing this out with a goal because you should acknowledge the fact that the state would have just contributed Rs 1,500 crore for development. "Goa on its own would not have been able to take up these projects", he said.

Mr. Parrikar chose to have a check-up at Lilavati as he did not want to take any chances before the budget session of Assembly next week. Anything I put before him, he has cleared.

"Although he is a world leader, he thinks about the issues of the grassroots". He would be inquiring about the progress of open defecation free scheme. I get the police report.

"On the one hand, he is a world leader and on the other hand, he also worries about ODF".
