Mobile Police Officer killed, suspected shooter also killed

An Alabama cop is dead after being shot by a man suspected of killing his ex-wife.

Billa was rushed to the hospital where he died, Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste told a local Fox affiliate. The murdered woman was later identified as Fonda Poellnitz, the ex-wife of Hollie.

Police said the standoff began around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when suspect Robert Hollie barricaded himself inside a home in Mobile's Toulminville community. It's unclear if he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or was shot by police.

Poellnitz's daughter Octavia had identified Hollie as the likely suspect to media outlets before it was confirmed by authorities. He was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center.

"Why would you do that to my momma", she said, lashing out at her father.

Police officer Justin Billa was shot on Tuesday during a standoff with the "person of interest" in a case.

Billa joined the force in January 2016. "There's a lot that has to be done as we go through the process".

As the officer was introduced in the TV segment, the reporter noted that Billa was 'just six months into the job, a job he wants to do for the rest of his life'.
