Tiffany Haddish to Lead New Animated Netflix Show from 'BoJack Horseman' Team

The animation studio has been busy lately, not only with co-producing BoJack Horseman (so you should expect a similar style for Tuca & Bertie), but also with more recent series like Dallas & Robo, Jeff & Some Aliens, and TBS' upcoming series Final Space. The show is a comedy (although knowing that Bojack team, it will likely also be a constant emotional gut punch) "about the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building: Tuca, a cocky, care-free toucan, and Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird".

The breakout actress will voice one of the lead characters in Tuca & Bertie, a new animated comedy from the team behind BoJack Horseman, the streaming service announced on Tuesday.

The show was created by Lisa Hanawalt, who executive produces along with her Bojack alumnae Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright, Steve A. Cohen, and Tiffany Haddish. Animation will be done by Shadowmachine. Despite its similarities, Hanawalt notes on Twitter that Tuca & Bertie will not be in the same universe as BoJack-which is a good thing, since it'll free up the show to be fun, weird, or maybe even honest in ways that we might not expect.

Tuca and Bertie joins an animated roster at Netflix that includes BoJack, F is for Family, Castlevania and Big Mouth. If, for some odd reason, you've avoided watching BoJack Horseman, I highly recommend you rectify that immediately. She also signed a first-look deal with HBO and released a stand-up special on Showtime past year. Haddish will play Tuca as well as serve as executive producer.

There's no date set yet for Tuca & Bertie.
