River Flood Warnings Issued

The Flood Watch that was previously in effect for areas NW has been expanded to include most of central in until Wednesday morning.

Today's forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches or rain, along with melting snow, moderate flooding on some roadways and low-lying areas is expected, according to the weather service.

"We have an existing icy snowpack with high moisture content and the ground is still deeply frozen", the watch reads. It's not expected to level below the flood stage until Friday. This band of heavy rain will continue to drift to the southeast Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Minor flooding and standing water were reported on roads throughout the Chicago area, according to NWS meteorologist Stephen Rodriguez.

Forecasters say as much as 6 inches of rain, with heavier amounts in certain areas, will fall through this weekend across the state.

"Changes in weather contribute to unsafe ice conditions that may remain long after the ship has left the area". At the time of this writing, River Road remains closed, between 3rd Street and 8th Street, once again causing heavy backups during the morning commute.

A 52-year-old woman from Bourbonnais, Ill., was found dead Tuesday in a submerged auto in Peotone, south of Chicago.
