Shakhtar pipped Napoli to second place in their group and delivered Manchester City its first loss of the season in any competition, so Roma won't take its Ukrainian competitor lightly.

Shakhtar Donetsk fought back to beat Roma 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday.

Roma will have to turn this Champions League last-16 tie around at the Stadio Olimpico after Facundo Ferreyra's equaliser and Fred's stunning free-kick maintained Shakhtar's flawless home record in this season's competition.

However, the Giallorossi did get a precious away goal, when in-form Cengiz Under considered his recent goal scoring run.

Shakhtar's first-half attacking efforts had amounted to little, but Facundo Ferreyra dragged them level soon after the break with a fine individual goal and Fred turned the game around with a picture-perfect free-kick.

Due to injuries with Shakhtar will not play defender Rick Karsdorp and Maxime Gonalons, midfielder, and defender Jonathan Silva did not hit the bid team since the Champions League has already played for sporting.

Roma dominated the first half but it was the Italian club's Alisson who was the busier of the two goalkeepers, especially as the match wore on.

The hosts completed the turnaround in style with 19 minutes to play, as Fred curled a free-kick in off the crossbar.

Becker saved Roma from a heavier defeat with a stunning stoppage time save from Ferreyra, who seemed certain to score with the goal gaping.
